Hire Works checks, maintains, labels and certifies its equipment to high standards. As the hirer or operator, you also have an important role: use equipment only for its intended purpose, follow the supplied operating instructions and make sure anyone operating it is competent to do so.

WORKSITE CHECKS

Look around before you operate

Conditions vary from job to job. Check for underground services, overhead power lines, unstable or sloping ground, confined spaces, traffic and other people working nearby. Some equipment also has specific load, wind, towing or clearance limits.

Never bypass guards or safety devices, exceed rated capacities, or continue operating a machine that develops a fault.

REMEMBER

Some equipment needs specific training or certification.

Elevated work platforms, scaffolding and other specialist equipment can have additional competency, certification, harness or inspection requirements. Always follow the requirements that apply to the equipment and work being undertaken.
